The Washington Wizards view Anthony Davis as a key part of their future moving forward, but after the harsh comments from the big man, it's fair to wonder if the feeling is mutual.

Davis' recent comments during an interview on the Glass Half Full podcast with the Today Show's Craig Melvin raised eyebrows after the newest Wizard directly labeled Washington as a "bad team".

For anybody looking to counter that statement, it's hard considering the Wizards are set to select at the top of the NBA Draft once again this offseason, but at the same time, the young squad showed plenty of flashes throughout the season to suggest that when Davis and star running mate Trae Young are healthy, they could be a sleeper in the East.

Despite that, Davis' remarks seem to suggest he feels otherwise, and with his bold career goals revealed within the same interview, it feels like only a matter of time before the star forward seeks a fresh start elsewhere.

Following the comments of Davis, general manager Will Dawkins seemingly gave his take on where the Wizards are on his rebuild, and it suggests that he views things slightly differently than AD.

Will Dawkins seemingly pushes back on Anthony Davis' views

Dawkins took the time in a recent interview to clarify exactly how he views the 2026-27 season for the team's rebuild.

The GM made it clear that they don't plan to skip any steps, but at the same time, next season will be a year in which the Wizards plan to take the next step.

“The Wizards train is starting to leave the station," Dawkins said. "It’s not full speed ahead, but we do plan to move with a little bit of momentum.”

This statement from Dawkins seems worth noting, considering the team's decision-maker seemingly views a turnaround for Washington differently than Davis

Dawkins also said the team won't be skipping steps in their rebuild, but to insinuate that they won't be competing for a lottery pick, but now a playoff spot should be the motivation Davis needs if he truly was open to buying in.

AD's comments send mixed emotions

Davis has made his rounds in interviews since the season has come to an end.

The big man has given glowing reviews of the organization, but the moment he called the team bad, is when fans truly started to read between the lines.

Is he wrong? Not entirely, but there's more to like about the direction the Wizards are heading in than there is to dislike.

Washington has several intriguing pieces, and with a big offseason, there's no doubt the Wizards could be a sleeper next year. To do that, Davis needs to buy in, and with these comments, it's hard to find the confidence that he will.
