The Washington Wizards' looming decision in the 2026 NBA Draft could be one that completely alters the future of the organization.

AJ Dybantsa is the projected top pick, but even with that, the Wizards have refused to acknowledge the BYU standout as their preferred prospect, unlike years in the past, when players like Zion Williamson, Victor Wembanyama, and Cooper Flagg were the clear selection at No. 1.

Obviously, Washington doesn't want to give up their hand before draft night, but given they have their pick of the litter, it's at least shocking that it hasn't been leaked definitively about which way the Wizards are leaning.

Nonetheless, ESPN's recent player comparisons for the top prospects in the NBA Draft make it clear why Washington's decision is more complicated than anyone realizes.

Wizards could make a case for multiple prospects to be No.1

ESPN's Tim Bontemps and Jeremy Woo combined to give player comps to the top 12 players in the upcoming draft class, and it takes two seconds to realize why Washington may be struggling to single out one individual prospect.

Dybantsa has real MVP potential, and a supercharged Jaylen Brown being his high-end comparison makes the idea of selecting him extremely enticing.

Then again, with Darryn Peterson being considered a Damian Lillard clone with better tools, it only adds to the headache of the team's impending decision.

Not to mention, the idea of Cameron Boozer being the equivalent of Kevin Love with more ball skills continues to highlight why the Wizards' evaluation process has become an extensive process.

And that's just 3 of the options the Wizards have at their disposal.

Regardless, Washington will eventually have to make a decision, and even with the complex choices to choose from, it's safe to say the projected pick is the direction the Wizards will lean when it's all said and done.

Wizards are bound to land on AJ Dybantsa

High-end comparisons are fun, and when you're selecting at No. 1 overall, obviously, best player available tends to overtake positional needs.

However, when two prospects are essentially neck-and-neck in evaluation, positional needs come into play.

Peterson is an exceptional talent, and he very well could prove to be the top player in this respective class, but he doesn't fit a need for Washington, especially after the playmaker announced his determination to play point guard at the next level.

Dybantsa, though, fits the exact role in which the Wizards need him to fill in the frontcourt, and with MVP potential, it shouldn't take Washington much more time to realize that Dybantsa is their guy.
