The Washington Wizards made headlines with a blockbuster trade on Wednesday landing a premiere talent in star guard Trae Young.

It's safe to say it has been quite some time since the Wizards have found themselves in the position to prove aggressive on the trade market for a player that WANTS to be in Washington.

Furthermore, it's safe to say that the Wizards landing at the top of a player's list of preferred destinations is unfamiliar territory for the organization as a whole.

Nonetheless, Young's decision to list the team as his preferred destination was ultimately the final straw that motivated Washington's front office to increase their urgency to get a deal done.

In the end, Washington managed to land a long-term answer at the point guard position that the team has desperately struggled to fill since the departure of John Wall years ago for a ridiculously discounted price of CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert.

However, while Washington feels that they may have answered the biggest roster question of them all with the addition of Young, their should be some sign of concern that they were seemingly the only team in the market to land the 27-year-old star.

Wizards were the only interested team in Trae Young

According to NBA Insider Jake Fischer, the Wizards were the "only spot that I [Fischer] have on my radar as a legitimate possibility” prior to the acquisition of Young.

For Washington and the select part of the fanbase who was in favor of trading for Young, that news probably felt like a miracle considering their overwhelming bad luck when it came to luring talented players to D.C. over the last couple decades.

At the same time, the fact that a rebuilding team like the Wizards were the only squad interested in adding Young to their team, even over playoff contenders speaks volumes about how the rest of the league view the playmaker's value and impact on winning.

Whether that's due to his contract and desire to ink a long-term extension, his shortcomings defensively, lack of production of contributing off the ball or simply due to his injuries as of late is unknown.

Despite the reasoning, the Wizards should be alarmed that only they were in the running for the star guard.

Washington has a lot riding on this bold move panning out and if it doesn't, it could set their rebuild back years.

Not because of any assets they gave up, but the potential that Young's addition could stump the development of several prospects like Bub Carrington and Kyshawn George.
