The Washington Wizards are coming off yet another loss to the Boston Celtics on Saturday night, putting their record at 16-50 on the regular season.
Obviously, in terms of the team's pursuit for a top pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, another loss offers a slight light at the end of the tunnel for a fanbase who's grown accustomed to watching their team drop games more frequently than they win them.
However, the loss handed to Washington by the superstar duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown isn't what should sting the Wizards, especially considering in the long run it helped the team get one step closer to their dream offseason plans.
Instead, the the thing that should sting most came from Brown prior to the matchup, reopening a wound the team is already hoping to leave in the past.
Brown says Wizards deserves criticism for Bam Adebayo's historic night
As many already know, the Wizards found themselves as the butt of yet another joke when Miami Heat big man Bam Adebayo errupted for 83 points in a recent blowout win over Washington.
Adebayo himself was given plenty of mixed reviews, with some praising his efforts and others suggesting that the fashion in which he passed Kobe Bryant's historic 81-point performance was an embarrassment for the game.
Nonetheless, Brown's opinion on Adebayo's historic performance on a recent twitch stream reminded both the Wizards and other fans of the game that if anyone should be criticized for the performance for Miami's big man, it should be Washington.
“Records are meant to be broken, " Brown said. "I don’t see why there has to be any criticism. If anybody deserves criticism it’s the Washington Wizards."
And while it may be tough for people to realize, especially fans, it's safe to say that Brown is right.
Wizards should be embarrassed
Not only was the fashion in Washington lost to Miami bizarre, but the fact the team is forced to have their name etched in the history books as the team to allow Adebayo to score 83 points is an extremely unfortunate stat to begin with.
Washington's defense in the loss was abysmal, and while the fourth quarter certainly turned into a bit of an untraditional game, the Wizards put themselves in that situation to begin with.
The team is expected to go through growing pains, and even though they're shorthanded as of late, under no cicumstance should they ever allow an individual player to outscore them as a whole in a quarter.
For that reason alone, Washington has to take that recent performance on the chin and find a way to learn from it moving forward.
