The Washington Wizards have high hopes heading into the upcoming regular season.

While Washington doesn't have championship expectations or even legitimate playoff hopes, the Wizards focus towards the future continues to build around the development of the team's top young players on the roster.

Washington has several breakout candidates to monitor heading into next season, but there's no doubt that all eyes have been focused on former No. 2 overall pick Alex Sarr and incoming rookie and reigning No. 6 overall pick Tre Johnson entering the season.

The hype is more than understandable, especially considering the investment the Wizards have in the two top 10 picks.

However, through it all, the one player that may be gearing up towards a breakout season behind closed doors is another former first round pick, that has taken no time turning heads.

Kyshawn George looks poised for a breakout

Following Kyshawn George's rookie season, it was clear that the Wizards may have more than just a role player on their hands.

The forward's versatility on both sides of the court opened eyes, but the flashes he showed on offense is what truly turned heads.

Beyond that, his improved jumper at the start of Summer League is what officially began the hype train surrounding a potential breakout this coming season.

Not only was the hype from the fanbase building, but the front office, coaching staff and George's teammates all saw something special on the horizon.

It was evident early on that the talent was there, but the real opportunity for a breakout would come courtesy if the Miami product was able to put the work in and prove confident in what he was able to do on the court.

George is already proving that to be the case, which is exactly what fans have been hoping to hear.

In a recent scrimmage held between the Wizards new-look roster, George not only looked like a leader for the Wizards with his mic'd up moments, but he solidified his solid showing with a game-winning midrange jumper.

While it may not seem like a major development, the fact that not only George has the confidence to take that shot, but the coaching staff has the confidence in him to take that shot says a lot about his development and where things stand moving forward.

A breakout for George would be major, especially considering the Wizards desperation to find a building block in the frontcourt moving forward.

Early signs suggest that a major sophomore leap could be near.
