The Washington Wizards have plenty of excitement surrounding them heading into the regular season.
Not only are Wizards' fans excited about what's being built in Washington, but NBA minds around the league are keeping tabs on the progress being made in the DMV.
However, fans aren't the only ones excited about the potential in D.C.
Players on the Wizards are looking forward to what general manager Will Dawkins is building and looking at the moves this offseason, it's easy to understand why.
Between the additions of CJ McCollum and Cam Whitmore, Washington has multple immediate impact players on the way to help.
Nonetheless, McCollum and Whitmore aren't the only additions from the offseason that is building excitement.
One player in specific that has added plenty of eyes on Washington is incoming rookie Tre Johnson.
Johnson was selected with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and although the Wizards didn't land a talent like Cooper Flagg or Dylan Harper, the two top names fans were hoping for, he immediately became a fan favorite during Summer League.
The former Texas star took no time to show why he was considered one of, if not the most complete scorer in the NBA Draft.
In summer league play, not only was Johnson the best player on the Wizards, but he proved to be one of the top players on the court on a nightly basis.
With his elite level scoring, developing game as a playmaker, great size and overlooked athleticism, Johnson has everything he needs to be a key piece for the Wizards,
Even then, that's not what's exciting Kyshawn George about what the incoming rookie has to offer.
“Working out with [Tre], you see how locked in he is from the start," George said. "That’s all he thinks about. Every single rep is to the max. Every rep is game-like.”
Having a rookie that's already locked in at the level Johnson seems to be is huge.
Considering the Wizards aren't really a playoff bound team, Johnson could easily enter the league with no serious intent to be locked in from the jump.
However, it's obvious that Johnson is dedicated to improving his game and if he's able to hit the ground running with the Wizards like many expect him to, there's a real possibility that the guard could be the Rookie of the Year when it's all said and done.
