Rich Paul gave the Wizards every reason to ignore the Anthony Davis trade rumors

The Anthony Davis rumors have resurfaced with the latest buzz suggesting the Cleveland Cavaliers could be a team to make a splash for AD in order to help facilitate a reunion for LeBron James.

Speculation has suggested that Klutch Sports, the agency of Rich Paul, who's the agent for both LeBron James and Anthony Davis, is pushing behind the scenes to get Davis to one of Cleveland or Golden State.

Interestingly enough, though, Rich Paul himself already shut down the possibility of AD being traded, only adding to the blunt response from Washington Wizards general manager Will Dawkins, who declined any world in which the team moved on from their big trade deadline acquisition.

All that to say, with Paul rebuffing any idea of Davis being moved by the Wizards, why should Washington cave to the noise now, especially when they have all the leverage on their side?

Rich Paul's comments give Wizards confidence to ignore AD noise

In a recent discussion on the Game Over Podcast between Paul and co-host Max Kellerman, the long-time agent was asked if Davis was going to play for the Wizards.

Paul responded, asking, "Why wouldn't he?" Kellerman quickly countered, suggesting a trade could be in the future, saying, "Because of something in the works?"

Davis' agent quickly shut that down saying "I don't know anything about that."

Obviously, if Davis was hoping to be moved behind the scenes, it's unlikely that Paul would outright say that, especially on a podcast with Kellerman.

At the same time, if there was something in the works, a simple response like "we'll see' would have sufficed, and it would be up to par with previous comments Paul has made regarding the future of certain clients.

All the uncertainty makes it hard to ignore the noise, but between Davis' presence at Summer League, recent season prediction for the Wizards, and the fact that the 33-year-old is seeking a max extension that Washington is planning to offer in August, all signs point to AD being content with sticking around in D.C. moving forward.

Would a reunion with James be appealing to Davis? Probably so. However, there's no reason to believe that AD is chomping at the bit to get out of Washington, especially following the flurry of moves from the Wizards this offseason that show just how competitive their revamped depth chart will be.

Until Paul says something cryptic, the belief is that Davis won't be moved unless Washington receives an offer they simply can't refuse.
