The Washington Wizards have an abundance of offseason moves on the agenda, and they may have added one more to their list after a recent report suggests that trading Jordan Poole could be on the team's to-do list this summer.
Trading Poole may not be the dream move that most Wizards fans have on their minds this offseason, especially with the NBA Draft looming,
However, looking at Washington's past when it comes to capitalizing on players when they have the opportunity, it may be time for the Wizards to actually play this situation the right way this time around.
Poole is coming off a career-best season with the Wizards and throughout his time with Washington, not only has he matured as a player, but he's seemingly trended upward in the leadership department as well.
The guard's contract was perceived as one of the worst deals in the league as a whole this time last season fresh off of being benched by Brian Keefe at the end of his first season with the Wizards.
However, Poole put his head down heading into the offseason, put in the work and took the opportunity to improve his game and prove that he was worth the current deal he was on.
Undoubtedbly he didn't just prove it to himself and the Wizards that he was worth his deal, because rumors surrounding Poole at the trade deadline was that Washington had multiple teams call inquiring about the Michigan product's availablity.
Washington opted not to move Poole ahead of the deadline, but with them seemingly revisiting the possibility of moving him this offseason, the team may be seriously considering about ending the Poole expirment.
Poole's tenure with the Wizards wasn't all that bad by any means, but the hard truth is Washington has to prioritize more playing time for the young guards on their roster.
With Bub Carrington, AJ Johnson and potentially a Jeremiah Fears, Tre Johnson or even potentially VJ Edgecombe incoming, minutes will only become more scarce down the road.
Poole's value is at an all-time high and if the Wizards learned anything about their inability to capitalize on Kyle Kuzma's value, they should jump at the chance of trading the 25-year-old guard after the season he just put together.
Between the current state of their rebuild and factors considering Poole's play and slight age difference in the team's timeline, the writing on the wall suggests the guard's time in D.C. could be nearing an end.
