The Washington Wizards have built a reputation as being one of the worst teams in the league over the last few years.
Obviously, things in the DMV are turning around for the better, and in large part because of the bold moves made by the team's new front office regime.
With one of the best young cores in the league and a new superstar duo formed with the additions of Trae Young and Anthony Davis, the Wizards are catching the attention of many minds around the league, including the likes of future Hall of Famer and pending free agent LeBron James.
Still, Washington has found themselves often being the butt of nearly every joke, especially when it comes to being bad or playing poorly.
This time, the Wizards have simply found themselves being apart of the joke, rather than the punchline.
Lonzo Ball's self defense quickly got countered by fans
Lonzo Ball finds himself in a situation, where he's expected to become one of the top free agents on the market after an eventual buyout with the Utah Jazz.
After a horrendous start to the season in his lone year with the Cleveland Cavaliers, where the former No. 2 overall pick averaged 4.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists on abysmal shooting splits of 30.1% from field goal range and 27.2% from beyond the arc, Ball quickly became a trade candidate ahead of the deadline.
The former UCLA star found himself in a deal that sent him to the Utah Jazz, making him a prime buyout candidate on the market, especially after his poor play.
However, on a recent episode of the Ball in the Family podcast, Ball made it clear that he doesn't feel like he's played as poorly as the narrative surrounding him this season.
“I don’t feel like I’m playing as bad as people are saying," the guard said. "’m the scapegoat right now.”
That moment of Ball defending himself was quickly combatted by fans who took the time to pull up a clip of an insanely bad lowlight that only proves why the Cavaliers grew frustrated with the playmaker's play.

While the video itself is comical, it seems obvious that the versatile guard's poor play seems linked to his lack of trust in his surgically repaired knee that made him miss an extended period of time.
Still, Ball has a lot to prove wherever he finds his next opportunity.
Meanwhile, it's refreshing for the Wizards to finally not be on the wrong side of a joke.
