The Washington Wizards have been looked at as an organization with much of any good luck.

Most of that reputation stems from the team's constant bad luck when it comes to the NBA Draft in both the results of the NBA Draft Lottery and their poor results when it comes to their selections in previoius drafts.

Nonetheless, those issues seem to be in the past now considering the current state of the Wizards young roster and the abundance of talented prospects the team has to build around moving forward.

Washington's new front office regime filled with President of Monumental Basketball Michael Winger and general manager Will Dawkins, the Wizards continue to seem to make the best out of unfortunate situations their bad luck puts them in.

Looking back at the 2024 NBA Draft, ealry signs only prove that the team may have finally found the group of NBA minds that will be able to pull them out of the persistent cycle of mediocrity the franchise has seemingly been stuck in for the last decade.

Wizards 2024 NBA Draft haul offers another reassuring sign

When the Wizards landed the No. 2 overall pick in arguably one of the weakest drafts in recent years, the verdict seemed out that Washington was just destined to live at the bottom of the NBA standings.

However, instead of letting the bad luck overtake them, Washington did their due diligence in the scouting process managing to snag not only one of the top prospects in the draft in Alex Sarr at No. 2, but they managed to find a hidden gem in Kyshawn George in the back half of the first round.

Following the draft, not much was thought about the Wizards selections, especially following the stellar rookie season from Stephon Castle, who was selected No. 4 overall by the San Antonio Spurs.

In fact, many argued that the Wizards missed out on Castle and would soon regret their decision to take Sarr over the UConn product.

Fast forward to now, all signs point to Washington dodging a bullet...not on Castle, but instead the fact that the weak draft class itself seemed like a recipe for failure for any rebuilding team to find building blocks.

A look at the top 5 players in points per game this season from the 2024 NBA Draft class:
1) Alex Sarr: 17.2 PPG
2) Stephon Castle: 16.9 PPG
3) Kyshawn George: 15.5 PPG
4) Matas Buzelis: 15.0 PPG
5) Jaylon Tyson: 13.5 PPG

Looking back at the draft, all signs suggests the Wizards landed two of the top 3 prospects in the draft, which alone is enough to say the team dodged a bullet considering the history of botching draft decisions.
