The Washington Wizards made the bold move to land four-time All-Star Trae Young in a blockbuster trade with the Atlanta Hawks.

Young's arrival in Washington comes as a result of the Wizards hoping to answer the point guard question that has seemingly plagued the team since the departure of John Wall.

With the Wizards hoping to find their point guard of the future that can elevate the young talent on the roster, while allowing them to make a run for the postseason sooner rather than later, Washington opted to take their swing following Young listing the team as his preferred landing spot.

Shortly after the Wizards move to acquire Young, another star guard became available on the trade market.

Now, it's fair to wonder if the Wizards took the right swing, or if they would have went a different direction if they knew then what they know now.

Wizards Trae Young trade led to Grizzlies making Ja Morant available

Following Young's departure from Atlanta, NBA Insider Shams Charania announced that the Memphis Grizzlies were beginning to field calls for two-time All-Star Ja Morant.

Morant is in the midst of a down season, averaging 19.0 points, 7.6 assists and 3.2 rebounds, while shooting 40.1% from field goal range and 20.8% from beyond the arc.

Despite that, it's obvious that when he's at his best, Morant is one of the premiere backcourt talents in the league.

Between his explosive first step, atheltic abilities and underrated playmaking, there's not much that the Murray State product can't do with the ball in his hands.

However, his value has tanked drastically since the abundance of off-court issues that have piled up in recent years.

Now, with Memphis seemingly open to hitting the retool button, the Grizzlies efforts to field calls on Morrant shows the team's desire to move in a different direction.

Obviously, the package that the Hawks landed for Young will play a major factor in what the Grizzlies will eventually land for Morant, which is why it's fair to wonder if Washington would have made the same move they did if they were aware that the former No. 2 overall pick could have been acquired.

In all liklihood, Washington would have likely still preferred to land Young considering the off-the-court issues Morant has displayed in recent years. Not to mention, the playmaking ability of Young is exactly the type of guard Washington hoped to pair alongside rising star Alex Sarr.

Still, the latest developments surrounding Morant are interesting to say the least.
