Since landing with the Washington Wizards ahead of the NBA trade deadline, Anthony Davis has yet to make his long-awaited debut.

The big man continues to rehab from a hand injury that originally sidelined him during his time with the Dallas Mavericks, and with the Wizards closer to contending for a top pick in the 2026 NBA Draft rather than a postseason spot, there seemed to be no rush for the newest DMV star to return to action.

Still, general manager Will Dawkins made his plan crystal clear for the Wizards new superstar duo of Trae Young and Davis, with the update that the team had all intentions of the two stars making their debut before the regular season came to an end, regardless of Washington's record.

Young's debut has already occured, with his limited run alongside the team's young core offering plenty of excitement for the future.

And after the latest injury update for Davis, it seems like the Kentucky product's debut could be on the horizon.

Anthony Davis cleared for on-court work

In a recent update by the Wizards, fans were given a much-needed update on their new star forward that not only offered optimism about his rehab process, but about his potential debut.

Davis being cleared for light on-court work may not seem like a major step to some, but considering the former top pick was previously not cleared for any contact work in the previous update makes it clear he's trending in the right direction.

And with Dr. Steven Shin declaring that the big man was progressing as expected and healing on schedule, it aligns with the original plans from Dawkins about a debut being. apossibility this season.

All that to say for fans hoping to see Davis in a Wizard' jersey before the season coomes to an end, the dream is still alive.

Davis could make debut before the season ends

Obviously, there's no real motive for Washington to rush the big man back, but at the same time, it wouldn't be a shock to see the team give their fanbase a reason to be excited about what's to come.

If Davis is cleared for a return before the regular season comes to an end, the Wizards may very well allow for the defensive-minded star to make his debut, even if it's on a limited-minute basis.

The debut would be less about what he can offer for the young core's development this season, but more about proving he's returned to full health and ready to contribute when October comes around.
