Washington Wizards: John Wall, Best Recruiter in the NBA
Washington Wizards point guard John Wall is a connected man around the league. His time at Kentucky, along with his All-Star pedigree, has allowed him to bridge friendships with many other stars across the league. As Washington looks to get over the hump, it’s time for Wall to become the best recruiter in the NBA.
Yes, I’m going to remind everyone that the Washington Wizards were one game away from the Eastern Conference Finals last season.
Towards the end of the season, John Wall said that he didn’t need to go out and recruit players, because their season spoke for itself. That’s true.
Now, Wall is speaking to his friend, Pacers’ Paul George, about joining the Wizards. The Wizards are a better landing spot than the Boston Celtics.

First, George is not even a priority for Boston, the Utah Jazz’ Gordon Hayward is. Why would George want to go a team, where he is their second option?
Second, Boston reportedly would offer George a three-year extension. George already made it clear, that for the 2018-2019 season that he’s taking his talents to the Lakers. Whereas Washington would not place any pressure on George, and would hold him to a one-and—done contract per his wishes.
Wall already said, he’s talking to a few other players about joining forces in Washington. I know everyone seems to want DeMarcus Cousins. I’m not against Cousins, I have no reason to be – he’s not my cousin. But the first priority should be Washington’s bench.
Washington at this juncture cannot afford Cousins. Later on down the road, after Washington has a deep and complete bench, then by all means Washington should go full force for Cousins.
There are some in the media who are calling George coming to the Wizards a “long shot”. Well, at least Wall is trying. He’s going toe-to-toe with almost every team in the league, to try to get George, and for that he should be applauded.
Wall did not throw Otto Porter, Jr. under the bus. First of all, Wall is not Porter’s agent. It’s the agent’s job to get the best possible deal and situation for his client. If Porter doesn’t get a max, that is between Porter and his agent.

Wall is doing what’s best for this team. And what’s best for Washington is a new bench, and after that getting a third superstar to battle LeBron James, end of story.
Everyone saw the financial gymnastics that Houston did in acquiring Chris Paul. Houston went around the league and bought up almost every non-guaranteed contract. I was hoping they bought up some of Washington’s. So it is feasible to get the third superstar and keep Otto Porter. So Ottobots roll out.
I do believe that Wall gives the Wizards a fighting chance to land George. And at least he’s fighting. So let’s back him up on this.
And for those of you who are saying, why give up Porter or any other assets for a one-year rental in Paul George? Let me ask you this in my Braveheart voice:
“Aye, fight and you may get 50 wins. Run, and you’ll make the playoffs… at least a while. And lying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin’ for a sign and trade of Otto Porter, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies, the Celts to the North, that they may take draft picks and players, but they’ll never take… OUR FREEDOM!”

I say we stand behind John Wall, as he fights to make the Washington Wizards into a team that it was always meant to be, and a chance at a run at the Eastern Conference Finals next season.
