Washington Wizards forward Markieff Morris will avoid charges for allegedly bringing weed into a Philadelphia airport. His friend admitted guilt

Bringing weed to the airport usually doesn’t end well.

Washington Wizards forward Markieff Morris, whom the team acquired before the NBA Trade Deadline this past season from the Phoenix Suns, was recently caught in a sticky icky situation at the Philadelphia International Airport.

Before we get into the actual incident, it’s important to break down why the alleged circumstance is important as it relates to Morris.

Morris signed a relatively cheap long-term deal with the Suns.

In today’s league, players of Morris’ caliber get anywhere from $11-15 million annually, especially since the salary cap is going to explode this summer.

Morris is going to make about $8 million per season over the next three years. That won’t restrict the Washington Wizards from pursuing another top free agent and it will give them a young power forward with a ton of untapped potential.

His contract matters because he agreed to the cheap deal in order to stay in Phoenix with his twin brother, Marcus Morris.

The twins expected to stay in Phoenix for the long-haul, but the team decided it was time to part ways. After the Suns traded Marcus to the Detroit Pistons, Markieff publicly demanded a trade – one that wasn’t granted until later that season.

Morris went on to cause some trouble in Phoenix because he felt betrayed.

He had multiple on-court disputes with former coach Jeff Hornacek, threw a towel at him and got into a shoving match with teammate Archie Goodwin.

The guy wanted out, but ultimately hurt his reputation with his antics.

Washington took a chance on Morris and spoke to countless people about his character.

The people they spoke to, including Jared Dudley and Marcin Gortat, vouched for Morris.

In just a few months, Morris had already transitioned to his new team smoothly.

He seemed to get along well with the team’s core and his familiarity with some of the players on the team helped too. He never made an issue in the locker room and it seemed like all of his knucklehead behavior was over.

Then he got busted with weed at the airport.

Morris, who already has a pending case, supposedly brought weed into the Philly Airport and was detained. Today, it was reported that Morris won’t be charged with anything.

According to the report, Morris’ friend is going to be charged with possessing nearly four ounces of marijuana.

Remember what Cris Carter told rookies at the NFL rookie symposium? If not, I’ll remind you.

"“Because all you guys aren’t going to do the right stuff. I need to teach to you how to get around all of this stuff too. If you have a crew, one of them fools need to know that they’re going to jail. I know a lot of you aren’t going to drink, i know a lot of you aren’t going to use drugs but still get yourself a fall guy.”Now, I’m not saying that’s what happened in the Morris situation, but…Next: Key to Wizards' Future is Player DevelopmentWe can breathe a sigh of relief. Morris probably won’t face any sort of punishment from the NBA. The situation is over, as far as the Washington Wizards are concerned.Published on 06/07/2016 at 8:52 PM EDTLast updated on 06/21/2016 at 1:07 PM EDT “Because all you guys aren’t going to do the right stuff.
